Damex has announced that its Maltese entity has received authorization from the Malta Financial Services Authority as a crypto asset service provider under the European Union’s Markets in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCA). This marks an important milestone in the company’s regulatory and institutional development.
With this authorization, Damex joins only 148 companies across Europe that have been approved as CASPs under the MiCA framework. Of these, only 46 are authorized to provide custody and exchange services, and only one company within the group also holds a Gibraltar license to provide similar regulated digital asset services currently offered by Damex.
This positions Damex as a Tier-1 digital asset institution in Europe.
MiCA introduces a harmonized regulatory framework designed to raise standards across the digital asset sector, establishing clear requirements for governance, operational resilience, transparency and consumer protection.
For companies and financial institutions, the impact is significant. Contracting with a crypto provider that is not MiCA licensed exposes you to regulatory exposure and operational risk without protection.
The MiCA license gives Damex the same regulatory accreditation as leading institutions such as Revolut, BBVA and Coinbase, strengthening its role as a trusted cryptocurrency and distributed ledger technology (DLT) partner for banks and large financial institutions across Europe.
Damex has been operating at the highest level of digital asset regulation since 2017, holding the Gibraltar DLT license and providing regulated infrastructure to institutional customers long before MiCA was introduced.
Although currently licensed, Damex is in its final pre-production phase under MiCA, focusing on system readiness, governance alignment, and operational management prior to full-scale production.
The company is currently welcoming early engagement from institutions and companies looking to operate within Europe’s regulated digital asset environment.
