Bohines, executive director of WhitehauScript Council, reportedly resigned from his position in order to return to the private sector.
It shows a major shift in the Trump administration’s cryptocurrency policy leadership.
Bohines resigns after eight months of leading Trump’s Crypto Council
Hines was a central figure shaping the Council’s stance on digital assets, stablecoin regulations and blockchain innovation.
His tenure, which began in December, included navigating complex debates over the financial markets, consumer protection and Crypto’s role in national competitiveness.
Although Hines waives his daily leadership duties, he continues to be involved in the administration as a special government employee, focusing on artificial intelligence initiatives.
With this ability, he is expected to work with entrepreneurs and venture capitalist David Sachs, who are notable figures in both technology and policy fields, as the White House accelerates its AI strategy. Crypto America Podcast host Eleanor Terrett reported the leadership transition.
It is at a critical time for the crypto industry, and regulatory clarity is still a work in progress, moving forward with the framework of digital assets. With all this in the pipeline, the WhitehauScript Council plays a key role in coordinating policy across federal agencies.
Hines’ deputy Patrick Witt is expected to take on the role of executive director. A respected policy strategist with a deep knowledge of both financial markets and emerging technologies, Witt has worked closely with Hines on the Council’s agenda.
Although his appointments show some continuity, his leadership style and policy emphasis still can lead to subtle changes.
Hines’ movement reflects a growing trend in which well-known public sector leaders return to the private sector, often leveraging government experience in advisory, investment or executive roles.
It also highlights the increasing overlap between the crypto and AI policy areas, two areas where technological innovation outweighs regulatory adaptation.
The White House has yet to confirm the official date of the transition, but sources say it is expected to occur in the coming weeks.
