Ripple is expanding its global blockchain education efforts with a new commitment to more than $5 million in funding to universities across the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) region, according to a June 10th statement.
The Crypto Payment Company says the investment will be channelled through Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) through targeting institutions in Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia.
This funding is part of Ripple’s ongoing strategy to promote talent and innovation in local communities with strong digital finance appetites.
In particular, the Asia-Pacific region has become an important hub for fintech, boasting a concentration of neobanks and an increasing number of markets with advanced regulations.
According to Ripple, these factors, combined with an active developer community, position the region well to lead blockchain research and adoption.
Ripple-funded university
Ripple expanded its cooperation with South Korea’s University through a six-year agreement worth $1.1 million.
In Japan, new funds will support both Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. The latter now receives more than $1.5 million from UBRI.
Ripple is also providing greater support in Singapore. Over $3 million will be allocated to two major institutions, including Nanyan University of Technology and the National University of Singapore, to expand regional academic research and blockchain coursework.
Professor Yang Liu of Nanyang University of Technology said:
“With current grants, we are developing an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP ledger and creating a transparent, modular, accessible, collaborative platform that leverages blockchain technology.
Taiwan is participating in Ripple’s UBRI network through a new partnership with the National Kaochon University of Science and Technology. This collaboration focuses on real-world asset tokenization and explores technical frameworks and regulatory implications in future research.
Additional research examines how XRP ledgers interact with Ethereum and Solana, and how institutional adoption can be accelerated through improved on/ramp infrastructure.
In Australia, Ripple is strengthening its relationship with the Australian National University and launching a new partnership with the University of Victoria.
The $1.3 million total funding supports legal and policy research into blockchain, digital payments, and decentralized systems. It also supports faculty-led research on platforms such as Evernode.
